MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — A $10 million federal grant help upgrade a short line railroad connecting Horry County, South Carolina, and Columbus County, North Carolina.

U.S. Rep. Tom Rice announced in a news release Tuesday the U.S. Transportation Department has been awarded the money to Horry County.

The roughly 90-mile line runs between Mullins, South Carolina and Chadbourn, North Carolina, and south to Myrtle Beach. R.J. Corman Railroad Group bought it last year.

It was previously operated as the Carolina Southern which had to shutter operations five years ago because bridges along the line failed to meet federal standards.

Corman vice president Bill Henderson told The Sun News of Myrtle Beach (http://bit.ly/2a4fAUU ) that the improvements will allow the railroad to work with local economic development officials to attract more business for the line.
