PHOENIX (AP) — Phoenix police say a North Carolina homicide suspect who had been barricaded in an apartment for hours has been found dead with an apparent gunshot wound.

Police identified the suspect found dead late Wednesday as 26-year-old Jason Earl Armstrong and say he was sought in a homicide at Fort Bragg, an Army base in North Carolina.

An FBI wanted poster gave Armstrong’s name as Jason Earl Armstrong, Jr. and said he was 27. The poster said he allegedly killed his wife, Iris Armstrong.

Phoenix police say officers went to the apartment to assist the FBI. after the suspect was spotted and ran into the apartment.

Police negotiated with the suspect but he was found dead alone after hours of negotiations.

Cause of death will be determined by a medical examiner.
