PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say a man accused of killing his wife in their North Carolina home has been found dead of an apparent gunshot wound after barricading himself in a Phoenix apartment.

The FBI and Phoenix police identified the man found dead late Wednesday as 27-year-old Jason Earl Armstrong Jr.

According to the FBI, Armstrong was sought on a federal murder warrant in the July 1 killing of his wife, Army soldier Iris Armstrong, in their home at Fort Bragg, a base in North Carolina.

Phoenix police say officers responded and assisted the FBI after Armstrong was spotted and ran into the apartment.

The FBI and police say Armstrong was found dead alone in the apartment after hours of negotiations.

A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
