WENTWORTH, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina prosecutor says no charges will be filed against two sheriff’s deputies in the death of a man killed in front of his family.

Rockingham County District Attorney Craig Blitzer said at a Friday news conference the white county deputies have been cleared after his review of a state investigation of the May 29 shooting.

Todd Burroughs of Stoneville, 38 and also white, refused to stop while driving home with his family from a wedding. The report said his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

Deputies confronted Burroughs at his home and he was shot as he approached them with a baton he got from one of the officers. The report said deputies could not subdue him with the baton, pepper spray or a stun gun.
