RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Meredith College is marking its 125th anniversary with plans for a $75 million fundraising campaign.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports (http://bit.ly/1R8aaWI) Friday’s announcement marks the public phase of a campaign that’s already raised $52 million. The drive was energized during a one-day online fund drive on Wednesday that brought in more than $277,000.

With 2,000 students, Meredith is among the largest of the 42 remaining women’s colleges in the U.S. While enrollment has dropped from 2,300, the college’s survival has not come into question.

Meredith has a $91 million endowment. It diversified with graduate programs that admit men and a certificate program aimed at people seeking graduate study in health fields. It also added a science emphasis and a dual enrollment program in engineering with N.C. State University.
