AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The Latest on a shooting early Sunday in an entertainment district of downtown Austin, Texas (all times local):

9:40 a.m.

The Austin Police chief says his department is working to identify and arrest the person responsible for the shootings in an entertainment district.

Chief Art Acevedo said in a statement Sunday that the department urges people who have video of the shooting or the aftermath to send it to police via email.

Police received reports of gunshots about 2 a.m. Sunday. One woman was pronounced dead at the scene, three others were taken to a hospital and a fifth declined to be taken to the hospital.

Austin Police Chief of Staff Brian Manley said earlier Sunday that officials are trying to determine who the shooter is and didn’t rule out one of them might have been taken to the hospital.

Acevedo also said that the departments extend “our deepest condolences” to the family and friends of the young woman who died. Authorities have not identified the victims.

Officials say one person is dead and three others have been hospitalized in a shooting in the entertainment district of downtown Austin, and police are looking for a suspect.

Austin Police Chief of Staff Brian Manley says police received reports of gunshots in the crowded entertainment area shortly after 2 a.m. Police arrived to find a chaotic scene and five people shot.

Manley says one woman has been pronounced dead at the scene, and three others, all female, have been taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with gunshot wounds. He said another victim declined to be transported to the hospital. There was no immediate word on the condition of those taken to UMCB.

Manley says a suspect began firing into the crowd after an initial disturbance.

He said officials are trying to determine who the suspects are and he didn’t rule out that a suspect might be one of the people transported to the hospital.

Captain Rick Rutledge of the Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services tells The Associated Press that one woman has been pronounced dead at the scene, and two women and a man have been taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with gunshot wounds. There was no immediate word on the condition of those taken to UMCB.

Austin police said on their Facebook page and Twitter feed there were separate shooting incidents at approximately 2:30 a.m. within the same area in downtown with multiple victims.

About an hour later, police said the scenes of the shootings were secure.

Police had warned people to stay away from downtown.
