William P. “Bill” Britt Jr., age 78, died Sunday, March 17, 2013, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. He was born July 29, 1934 in Thomaston, Ga. He attended and graduated in 1958 from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Textiles. Bill married Gwen Barfield on Dec. 18, 1960. He worked at Burlington Industries as a Quality Control Manager for 33 years until retiring in 1999. Bill was a faithful and active member of First United Methodist Church in Rockingham for 25 years, Gideons International and Masonic Lodge #495.
Surviving are wife of 52 years, Gwen Britt; daughter, Melanie B. Jones and husband Greg Jones of Greensboro, son, Keith Britt and Twing Kurdian of Charlotte, and grandson Ryan Jones; brother Charles Britt and wife Gail of Bartlett, Tenn. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Roberta L. McLendon, dad, William P. Britt Sr. of Thomaston, Ga., and sister Mary Britt Burton of Tampa, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church Thursday, March 21, at 11a.m. with Reverend Mike Sykes and Reverend Allison Farrah officiating. Interment will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday March 21, prior to the funeral service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church.
