Myrtle Sellers Rayfield, 87, of Rockingham, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at Richmond County Hospice Haven. She was born March 22, 1925 in Chesterfield, S.C., a daughter of the late Jesse Lee and Bertie Bryant Sellers.
Mrs. Rayfield was a homemaker and a member of Roberdel Baptist Church.
She was preceded death by her husband Caston Rayfield, a brother Ernest Sellers, a sister Mary Sellers, several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws from Chesterfield.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 20 at 2 p.m. at Roberdel Baptist Church with Rev. Ernie Walters and Rev. Gene Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
Surviving, her children, Johnny C. Rayfield Jr. and wife Trudy of Raleigh and Karen Thornton and husband Wayne Thornton Sr. of Rockingham. Grandchildren, Kevin Rayfield and wife Rachael of Greensboro, Katrina Brown and husband Jeff of Rolesville, Wayne Thornton Jr. of Rockingham, Chris Thornton and wife Stephanie of Rockingham, and Matt Thornton and wife Amanda of New Bern. Great grandchildren, Zachary Thornton, Taylor Thornton, Noah Thornton, Hayden Thornton, Kieran Rayfield, Keenan Rayfield, Justin Brown, Jeffrey Brown, Christian Elliott and Amelia Broadwater. Brother, Arthur “Jim” Sellers and wife Carolyn of Ellerbe.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Roberdel Baptist Church and at other times at her daughter’s home 344 McNeill Road Rockingham.
