Debra Elsie Kelly Goodwin 61, of Rockingham passed away Friday, January 18, 2013. She was born August 28, 1951 to the late Frank Jackson Kelly Sr and Elsie Haywood Kelly. She graduated from Rockingham High School and was a school bus driver (The Judge) and further went on after graduating to drive a bus and be a teacher’s aide at L.J. Bell, West Rockingham, and Fairview Heights Schools. She also worked part time as a pharmacist assistant at Revco, The Medicine Shoppe, and Eckerds. What was supposed to be her three month long temporary job at Bryant’s Turf & Landscaping as a floral designer turned into a lifetime career as a bill collector and store manager where she worked for 26 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents along with siblings Frank Jackson Kelly and LaVonne Kelly Benfield. Surviving are Dennis Goodwin, son Ellis Dukes Goodwin and wife Stacey of Ellerbe, daughter Elexis Deane Goodwin Walker and husband Rick of Rockingham, daughter Kelli Goodwin Lyerly and husband Mark of Lewisville, N.C., eight grandsons and 2 granddaughters. Sisters - Pat K. Bynum, Dianne K. Wilson, and Glenda Kelly and numerous nephew and nieces.

The family will receive friends at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham on Tuesday, January 22nd from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral arrangements will be held at Cartledge Creek Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 23rd at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Haywood Cemetery. The family will also receive friends at her daughter Deane’s home at 127 Kellyville Drive, Rockingham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Community Care Hospice in memory of her, 1791 East Broad Ave., Rockingham, NC 28379.
