Lawrence Wesley “Mickey” Chavis Sr., 79, of 118 Liberty Drive, Rockingham, died, Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at his residence.

Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 20, from 1 to 2 p.m. at East Rockingham Free Will Baptist Church with the memorial service beginning at 2 p.m. with Rev. Johnny Johnson and Rev. Royce Honeycutt officiating.

He was born in Richmond County, Feb. 13, 1933, son of Lawrence Gilbert Chavis and Blanche Grant Chavis. Chavis was owner and operator for over 30 years of Mickey’s Amoco, a member of East Rockingham Free Will Baptist Church and a life long member of East Rockingham Men’s Club. He is preceded in death by his late wife, Shirley Idol Chavis.

Chavis is survived by his daughter, Lorraine Jackson of Hamlet; sons, Lawrence W. “Nickey” Chavis and Tim Chavis both of Rockingham; sisters, Ina Childers of Rockingham, Gladys Skipper of Fayetteville, and Betty Ellis of Louisiana; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to; East Rockingham Free Will Baptist Church, 189 Airport Road, Rockingham, NC 28379 or Scotland County Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353
