Emily Williams Comer of Hamlet died Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Richmond Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation. She was born March 8, 1924 in Rockingham to Leaton M. and Bessie Kellam Williams, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Comer, and her siblings Sallie Jackson, Lucille Taylor, Howard Dale Williams, Leaton Williams, Jr., Robert Williams, and Wesley Williams.

She and her siblings, Wesley and Lucille, ran a family grocery store, The City Market, for many years and enjoyed serving their customers. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rockingham.

She is survived by her children, Marcus and Joan Comer of Bel Air, MD; Murphy and Mary Comer of Aiken, SC; and Anne and Fred Morris of Rockingham. Her grandchildren are Marc and Nicole Comer of Newark, DE; Kellam and Geoff Black of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; Matt and Allison Comer of Aiken, SC; Megan Comer of Aiken, SC; Montgomery Morris of Chapel Hill, NC, and Lindsay Morris of Carrboro, NC. Her great-grandchildren are Natalie and Max Comer of Newark, DE and Ben, Maggie, and Nate Black of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.

She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Alexander, of Rockingham, and in-laws, Helen Comer of Ellerbe, Mac and Gwen Comer of Greensboro, Fred Comer of Fayetteville, and Margaret Thompson of Pinehurst.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 12th at First United Methodist Church in Rockingham. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Interment follows in Eastside Cemetery.

The family expresses its deepest appreciation to all of the staff at Richmond Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation (Britthaven) for having cared for their mother over the past 12 years.
