Mrs. Myrtle Ruth Wright Chalk, 88, of Rockingham died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. She was born September 27, 1923 in Pembroke, Robeson Co., a daughter of the late John Clark Jordan and Jessie Johnson Jordan.

Mrs. Chalk was the owner and operator of Hillside Florist in Rockingham for forty plus years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rockingham and was active with Circle #9. Mrs. Chalk loved flowers and working in her yard. She enjoyed interacting with people and always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. In her younger years, she loved going to Woody and Chuck’s ball games. Mrs. Chalk enjoyed cooking and was well known for her biscuits.

Funeral services were conducted 4:00 pm Monday, August 6th at the First United Methodist Church in Rockingham with Rev. Allison Farrah officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

Mrs. Chalk is survived by her children, Carol Smith and husband Gary of Rockingham, Woody Wright and wife Yolanda of Chapel Hill, Jenny Thompson and husband Charles of Hamlet, and Chuck Wright and wife Sally of Rockingham; ten grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Holly Smith, Torri Bailey, Marshall Wright, Gabrielle Wright, Gratten Short and wife Lisa, Heather Clemmons and husband John, Jim Wright, Will Wright, and Chuck Wright; five great grandchildren, Myles and Madison Short, Reese and Jake Clemmons, and Charlotte Bailey. Mrs. Chalk was preceded in death by husbands, Marshall Woodrow Wright and John D. Chalk, and siblings, Fred Jordan, John Allen Jordan, and Ethel Mitchell.
