Rev. Betty C. Terry, 67, of 138 Gaston McLean Road, Rockingham, passed away May 24, 2012, at Carolina Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 31, at St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church, 407 West Ave., Hamlet, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Kirby Woodward, Pastor and Presiding Elder and Michael Massey, Eulogist, officiating. Burial will follow in the Northside Cemetery.

Public viewing will be held Wednesday, May 30, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Service of Rockingham.

Born to the late Johnny and Edna Covington, Rev. Terry graduated Leak Street School in Rockingham and retired from Sara Lee Hosiery after 25 years. She entered into ministry in 1990, in A.M.E. Zion and pastored for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her son, Phillip Antonio Terry; sister, Diane Ingram; and brother, John Covington.

Survivors include her husband, Cleveland Terry Sr.; two daughters, Lisa Faye Terry of Rockingham and Shirley Ann Terry of Hamlet; two sons, Cleveland Terry Jr. of Hamlet and Joel Orlando Terry of Laurel Hill; her mother, Edna Covington of Rockingham; four sisters, Hazel Simmons of Greensboro, Joyce Blue, Edna Wall of Rockingham and Sharon Harris of Hamlet; four brothers, Lacy Covington, James Covington, David Covington and Robert Covington, all of Rockingham; five uncles; one aunt; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Nelson Funeral Service of Rockingham is in charge of the arrangements.
