Eugene McDonald Ussery, 85, loving husband and grandfather, died Wednesday. A native of Richmond County, he was the son of the late Zack Ellerbe Ussery and Mary Virginia McDonald Ussery. Mr. Ussery was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Marines Corp. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and was a retired pharmacist. He served as Superintendent of Sunday School and sang in the choir at Temple Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday at First Baptist Church of Clayton. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:30-1:00 PM at the church prior to the service.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Shirley ; step-son Kevin L. McKenzie, Sr. and wife, Leigh of Clayton; sisters, Margie Ritter of Oak Island, Mildred Karl and husband, Norman of St. Louis, MO and Lorene Tucker and husband, John of Hoffman, NC; grandchildren, Kevin L. “Mac” McKenzie, Jr. and Lilia Leigh McKenzie, as well as several nieces and nephews.
