Mr. Curtis Ray Thornton, 62, of Cameron, N.C., died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, N.C.
Mr. Thornton was born on June 17, 1949, to the late Don Thornton and Marzell Haigler Thornton Stephenson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Albert Donald Thornton and by a sister, Carolyn Stephenson.
He retired as a Resource Coordinator from Progress Energy. He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher and he was also a past member of the Masonic Lodge and Gideons International.
Mr. Thornton was a loving husband, Daddy, and Papa. He loved his family, his church, his friends, and his horses, cows, and dogs. Everyone that knew him knew he had a special love for ice cream.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Terry Thornton; a son, David Thornton and wife Rebecca of Sanford, N.C.; a daughter, Kim Thornton Himes of Cameron, N.C.; a brother, Wayne Thornton, Sr. of Rockingham, N.C. and grandchildren, Dalton Thornton, Joshua Williams, Cameron Himes, and Morgan Thornton.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 19, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The funeral will be Friday, April 20, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Broadway Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Pittman and Rev. Ken Dowdy officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery.
