Grace Louise Norton Mcintyre, 100, of Saint Marys, GA and formerly Hamlet, NC, died February 15, 2013 after a short illness, preceded by a long and wonderful life.

She was born in Laurinburg, NC, on February 11, 1913, to Charlie David Norton and Mattie Ellar Brown Norton. She married, the love of her life, Bernard Leach Mcintyre in Bennettsville, SC and they had two daughters, Dorothy Louise Mcintyre Baier and Betty Arlen Mcintyre Currier, all of whom preceded her in death. The Mclntyres raised their family in Ellerbe, NC and later in Portsmouth, VA where Grace worked for a short time with GE assembling televisions. Retiring to Hamlet, NC, her pastimes included sewing, antique shopping, gardening, painting, photography, handcrafts and cooking. She was especially well known for her homemade Peanut Brittle which she gave as gifts and was sold by friends at flea markets and swap meets all over NC. Her greatest passion, however, was gossiping and entertaining with friends and family around the kitchen table while preparing a mess of butter beans and okra or whatever was in season fresh from her garden. Later in life she moved to Saint Marys, GA to be near family. She rarely missed an episode of The Price Is Right, became a champion bingo player on the “Senior Circuit” and last year was named Valentine Queen at SGHS Senior Care Center - Saint Marys.

Survivors include six grandchildren and six great grandchildren from whom she often requested kisses with the phrase “Give Me Some Sugar!” Celebrating with Grace at her 100th birthday party were all six grandchildren and one great grandchild, Allison Grace Baier, as well as other family, friends and Buster the Therapy Dog.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Grace’s name to Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, GA ( 912-2654735 and 866-275-6801 ) would be appreciated. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held 6:30 pm, Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Allison Memorial Chapel in Saint Marys, GA ( 912-729-5000) with Pastor George Anderson of New Hope Baptist Church in Saint Marys, GA officiating. Her ashes will be buried next to her husband in Hamlet, NC at a later date.
