On Feb. 15, students and teachers gathered in the auditorium at Mineral Springs Elementary School to surprise their principal, Wendy Kelly Jordan, of her selection as the 2013 Wells Fargo Sandhills/South Central Regional Principal of the Year. Jordan walked into a room filled with people cheering for her as she received a letter informing her of the distinct honor she had been given.
Jordan was selected as Principal of the Year for Richmond County Schools in the fall, and after completing another round of interviews, will represent the Principal of the Year for Region 4.
As the regional winner, Jordan will receive $1,000 for Mineral Springs Elementary School and will serve on State Superintendent June Atkinson’s Principal Advisory Council for two years.
During the surprise ceremony, several teachers and staff complimented Jordan on her success as an administrator.
Fifth grade teacher Kathleen Wilderman collected a list of words that others used to describe Jordan, including devoted, generous, kind, efficient, helpful, compassionate and professional.
“Mineral Springs School and everyone that has had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Jordan has truly been blessed,” she said.
Second grade teacher Marshall Davis read a poem entitled “We Have Noticed” that mentioned all of the ways Jordan had gone out of her way to ensure the success and well-being of her school.
