The Richmond Thunder Softball team will hold its fourth annual barbecue sale on March 1 at the Browder Park at 1311 Rockingham Road, Rockingham.

The fundraiser will be from 11 a.m. until the barbecue is sold out. Barbecue plates can be delivered but five or more must be purchased for deliveries.

A barbecue plate is $7 and will be either barbecue pork or barbecue chicken. The plate will include coleslaw, baked beans and a roll.

According to Richmond Thunder softball coach Danny Lampley, this is the organization’s biggest fundraiser. It sold more than 2,000 plates of barbecue last year. The program raised $35,000 last year from the three fundraisers that were done and the dues that the parents paid, Lampley said.

All of the proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly to the Richmond Thunder program, said Lampley.

Lampley said he has already purchased more than 800 pounds of uncooked pork and will cook about 800 pieces of chicken.

I think it is a great thing that Danny Lampley and others do for softball in this county... It's never been bigger... The only thing that makes me a little ill is that parks and rec in Rockingham neglect all of the other sports. Soccer teams aren't allow to practice because it will mess up the field... Starting to act like Richmond with the football team... That's why we enjoy the complete organization provided by Hamlet Parks and Rec... Mitch Bowman does the best job with controlling upset parents, organizing practices, screening coaches, etc... It's just a complete structure program... Whether Hamlet knows it or not, they are real lucky to have such a great Parks and Rec Director...
