Dear Editor,

I want to thank the Journal, and especially reporter Dawn Kurry, for the moving front page article/photo last Thursday honoring Yank Gibbon Jr. and fellow veterans for establishing the Richmond County Veterans Memorial Park.

The key word, memorial, reminds and connects any and all of us to the sacrifices veterans have made in time of war as well as peace to ensure the well being of our great American society.

The RC Veterans Park will give youth and children an inspiring way to value the past as a guide to their own futures. I hope parents and teachers will bring their children and students to visit the park and learn about its Veterans’ role in our local history.

“Thank you for your service” is simple, but has a lot of value to the person hearing it. Our Veterans Park can encourage each of us to appreciate our veterans and each other. Thanks to all who have supported RC Veterans Memorial Park, and will contribute to its lasting future.

John Robich
