Ms. Dawn Michele Lawson, 49, of Springfield, Va., originally of Hamlet passed on February 7, 2013 in Falls Church, Va. Dawn was the daughter of the late Leonard Lawson and Mildred Lawson.
She graduated in 1981 from Richmond Senior High in Rockingham; graduated 1986 from UNC-Greensboro; graduated 1999 from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. with a Master’s Degree.
Ms. Lawson was a member of the Virginia 11th Congressional District Democratic Committee; Democratic Party of Virginia Central committee; Democratic Black Caucus of Va.; 2008 and 2012 Virginia State Delegate (DNC); Member of Blacks in Government; Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.(Life Member).
She worked with various organizations including the US Department of Army, Manpower Reserve Affairs at the Pentagon, and the US Air Force.
Dawn leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Mrs. Mildred Lawson; three sisters, Ella (Leroy) Fair, Carol Lawson both of Hamlet and Mary Abbott of Charlotte; three brothers, Joel (Patricia) Lawson of High Point, Stanley (Lula) Dockery of Winston-Salem, Lynn (Angie) Lawson of Hamlet.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, February 17 at First Baptist Church in Hamlet, Pastor John Daniels, officiating Minister Kenneth Robinson. Burial to follow at Lincoln Memorial Park.
Public viewing will be from 1-6 pm, Saturday, February 16 at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Rockingham.
