A Wind Advisory issued for Richmond County this morning is now accompanied by a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Richmond County and the surrounding area.
According to the National Weather Service of Raleigh, a strong cold front accompanied by a line of showers and isolated thunderstorms will surge east across the region beginning by late afternoon in the western Piedmont and heading into our region this evening.
Weather officials warn that locally damaging wind gusts to 60 mph will be possible with this line of weather approaching. The main weather hazard will still be damaging wind potential, but an isolated tornado or two may be possible.
Winds will steadily increase through the afternoon and remain strong through early tonight.
Strong winds may blow down trees and power lines, according to weather officials. Loose and unsecured outdoor objects may be tossed around by winds of these magnitudes. Strong winds will make handling vehicles, especially of high profile, difficult.
Use extra caution.
Skywarn spotter activation will likely be needed later this afternoon and evening. Spotters are encouraged to report severe weather as soon as it is safe to do so.
