Two varsity cheerleaders from Richmond Senior High School will be performing in the 2013 Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Florida.
The teens are scheduled to arrive and remain in Florida from Dec. 29 through Jan. 2, 2013.
The seniors, Kylie King, 17, of Hamlet, and Jazemine McSween, 17, of Rockingham, are invited to perform in the pre-game performance as award winners from United Spirit Association (USA) summer camp.
“I’ve been cheering for 14 years and was offered the chance in the 10th grade but couldn’t go,” said Kylie. “I really wanted to go this time because I’m a senior this year and this would be my last chance before heading off to college.”
The squad members will travel as a team to Orlando for a week of rehearsals dedicated to preparing them for their Capital One Bowl pre-game performance.
The hours of rehearsing will be well worth the effort when they perform in front of tens of thousands of fans at this major college football event, televised on ABC. While in town, they will also have the chance to visit Central Florida’s famed theme parks.
The duo recently received a DVD of their routine to learn for the occasion and have started practicing for the event. Due to funding, they have been taking turns sharing one copy of the routine. McSween estimates their routine to last around five minutes on national television.
“I’m a little nervous, but more exited than anything,” said Jazemine. “Our practice has been coming along well and I’m confident we’ll give a good performance.”
