Shakeanma McDougald of Hamlet was recently inducted into the National Honor Society at Sandhills Community College. Phi Theta Kappa is a national honor society and the local chapter at Sandhills Community College is Alpha Tau Beta. It was founded in 1918 by community college presidents who wanted to recognize academic excellence who wanted to recognize the best of the best on their campus.

Her peers said McDougald has worked tediously to receive this honor and her hard work has paid off. She is also a math tutor at SCC. She is serving as an intern for Alcohol and Drug Services in Rockingham. Her current area of study is Human Service Technology/Substance Abuse Concentration at SCC. She will be finished with her degree in December and hopes to find employment in her field of study. She plans to attend The University of North Carolina at Pembroke to pursue a bachelors degree in Social Work.

“Mrs. McDougald’s internship at ADS has truly been an asset,” said ADS Director Brenda David. “She is a hard worker and was eager to learn the job of a prevention consultant. She does not mind taking the lead on any project we asked her to assist in. An example of this would be the way she help organize our first annual law enforcement awards ceremony. I have really enjoyed having her as an intern because she is eager to learn the field of substance abuse and prevention. I am proud of her academic achievements and her desire to grow in this field of prevention and substance abuse.”
