Three generations were in the Live Nativity Presentation of First Baptist Church of Hamlet earlier this month.
At the first performance was John Hancock who portrayed Joseph, his daughter Cameron Trader was Mary and her son Brooks was Baby Jesus.
“The Live Nativity was a heart warming and well attended performance with around 500 people between the two performances at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.,” said Bill Dennis. “The Live Nativity also had a live camel, donkey and sheep that people enjoyed feeding and having photos taking with.”
Apple cider, hot chocolate and cookies were served between the two performances.
“It was a unique experience,” said Hancock. “We had three generations, and not everyone gets to do that. It was a meaningful experience. We moved to Hamlet in ‘77 and we joined First Baptist Church then.”
The live nativity event brought many people together, including the Hancock family. Hancock said his daughter traveled to be there.
“She enjoyed it,” said Hancock. “She made a special effort to come. She and her family live in Winston-Salem.”
It was a festive occasion, and Hancock got to see his grandson. He said Trader used to live in Minnesota, so he didn’t get to see his grandchildren much — there are four Trader grandkids — until recently.
“It was meaningful for Cameron to be at her home church and to portray Mary, and to have her baby as the Christ child,” sad Hancock.
Hancock said he has six grandchildren total, with the other two living in Hamlet.
