If you graduated from Rockingham High School in 1965, and went bowling and lost your ring, this could be your lucky Christmas.
Jim West of Hamlet used to own and operate the Bowling Center with his father, and he said it wasn’t uncommon for people to take off their rings and set them on the scoring table while they played. Sometimes these rings were left behind, and held onto by management until they could be returned to their owner. One such ring was never returned.
“I had kept it in the safe in the office, and then it got pushed to the back and I forgot about it,” said West.
West recently cleaned out a closet that contained a box of things from the Bowling Center, and there he found the ring.
The ring has a large green stone in the center, with one side decorated in pine cones and the other side says “rockets.”
The ring was made by Josten ring company, and the inside is inscribed with the initials “L.V.W.”
“I’m trying to remember whose ring it is,” said West. “I was a freshman then in 1965. I think the ring was left at the Bowling Center between ‘65 and ‘70.”
