In a venue fitting for such an announcement, Congressman-Elect Richard Hudson announced to more than 800 farmers at Tuesday’s annual statewide North Carolina Farm Bureau meeting that he will serve on the House Agriculture Committee during his first term in Congress. Hudson made the following comments while addressing N.C. Farm Bureau members from across the state:
“It is my distinct honor to be chosen to serve on the Agriculture Committee,” said Hudson. “Agriculture is the number one industry in North Carolina and I look forward to promoting fiscally responsible, pro-growth policies that will ensure our farmers have the best opportunity for success. This appointment has given me the opportunity to address serious needs of the people of our district, and I am looking forward to serving my constituents.”
The House Committee on Agriculture has jurisdiction over a variety of issues impacting America’s farmers from rural development and extension services to crop insurance and trade. The committee is responsible for oversight of the Department of Agriculture.
Hudson was also tapped to sit on the Committee on Homeland Security. He said he strongly believes the top priority of the federal government must be to protect the lives of the American people. Through his membership on this committee, Hudson will help provide Congressional oversight for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and work to better protect the American people and our nation’s borders, according to his staff.
In addition, Hudson will serve on the Education and the Workforce Committee. Applying his previous experience serving on the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Board of Trustees, Hudson holds a bold vision for education reform and understands the need to strengthen America’s schools, his staff said. Hudson said his support for education innovation, business entrepreneurship, and training for American workers is a natural fit for a committee whose mission is to empower the workforce and grow the economy.
In the November General Election, Republican Hudson beat incumbent Democratic Congressman Larry Kissell in the 8th District, which includes Richmond County.
