Rockingham Mayor Gene McLaurin has appointed Leonard L. Covington of Rockingham to the Rockingham Housing Authority Board.

Covington is employed as the Human Resources Manager with Monarch, a local agency specializing in the development of individuals with special needs. He has more than 25 years in professional human resources experience. His experience includes roles as Assistant Vice Chancellor of HR at Fayetteville State University and Associate Director of HR at UNC Charlotte, as well as positions with Allstate Insurance and Burlington Industries.

Covington is a graduate of Richmond Senior High School and holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from N.C. State University. In addition, he has obtained the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation.

In making the appointment, McLaurin said, “Leonard will bring good judgment and professional experience to the Housing Authority, particularly in the area of human resources. He is a native of our community and will work well with the other board members to make good decisions for residents of Rockingham Housing Authority. I am grateful to Leonard for his willingness to serve our community in this role.”
