Mr. C.W. “Tarpin” Hill of Red Springs died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in Autumn Care of Raeford at the age of 87.

Mr. Hill was born in Robeson County on July 18, 1925 to the late Jesse James Hill and Ira Tanzy Jackson Hill. Mr. Hill served in the U.S. Army Infantry during WWII and was a 1st Scout in Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Occupation Medal Germany, Good Conduct Medal, and a National Defense Medal. After returning from WWII, he worked in the textile industry until his retirement. He was a member of the Westside Baptist Church and a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to everyone he met.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Doris Lee Willoughby Hill; daughter, Judy Hill Allison and her husband, Charlie of Bolivia; sons, Ray Hill and his wife Wanda of Raleigh; WJ Hill and his wife Jeanie of Hamlet; daughter, Mary Lee Hill Wolf of Florida and the late Dick Wolf; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews who loved “Uncle Tarp” dearly.

Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday, October 26, 2012 at Crumpler Funeral Home-Red Springs.

Memorial Service will be immediately following the visitation in Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Alex Willoughby, Jr. officiating.

Graveside Service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 27, 2012 in the Alloway Cemetery with Reverend Randy Locklear officiating with full military honors.
