October is National Head Start Awareness month, which means it’s time for Richmond County’s annual Head Start Awareness Celebration. The event, set for Oct. 24, will feature guest speakers, a parade and a balloon release.

All citizens of Richmond County are invited to join in this year’s celebration by taking part in the festivities at the South Hamlet Head Start Center, located at 205 Thomas St. in Hamlet.

The Head Start and Early Head Start Programs in Richmond County are operated by Union County Community Action, Inc. (UCCA) and serve children from birth to age four. Both programs ensure children receive comprehensive education following best practices in Early Childhood Education and National Head Start Standards, healthy and nutritious meals, and physical, social, emotional, behavioral development and disability services.

For more information on the 2012 Head Start Awareness Celebration, contact Family Services Manager Kishi Tillman at 704-283-1114, ext. 223.
