A Richmond County woman stopped to check a tire on her vehicle in the middle of the night and was assaulted by a stranger from whom she escaped, she told deputies of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Christmas Eve.

The woman told deputies that at 1:20 a.m. a tire was making a noise so she pulled over on Millstone Road in front of the Lions Club Park to check it thinking it might be going flat.

When she was out of her car, she said a man approached her from behind, grabbed her and put a knife to her throat.

She told deputies the man threatened to cut her throat if she turned around.

Then she said he began choking her until she kicked him in the groin, and they both fell to the ground.

While they were fighting on the ground, the woman told deputies the man tried to pull her pants down.

She managed to get off the ground, and told deputies she kicked the suspect away, got in her car and drove away.
