Dear Editor:

“Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.”

— Thomas Paine

Several months ago, Rep. Larry Kissell wrote a lengthy article in the Daily Journal explaining in great detail his “principled” reasons for opposing Obamacare. He stated that he could not support the legislation because of the added costs to consumers and the effect it would have on Medicaid and Medicare. He promised when he ran for office that he would do everything he could to protect seniors.

That was his stated “principled” reason to oppose the bill. Congressman Steve King of Iowa has introduced bill HR4972 to repeal Obamacare. It is being blocked by Nancy Pelosi from coming to a floor vote. Mr. King then issued Discharge Petition 11, which needs 218 House member signatures to FORCE a floor vote. In July, I emailed Mr. Kissell and urged him to sign it, since he so adamantly, and on principle, opposed Obamacare.

I checked in late August and in spite of having 170 signatures, Mr. Kissell was not among them. I emailed him again, urging he take a stand on his principles and sign the petition. As of 9-15, he still has not signed. Everyone is already beginning to see the effects of Obamacare. Rates are going up, services are going down and seniors will be most affected. Larry has failed to show any courage and stand for his so-called principles. Just another politician trying to pull the wool over the voters eyes for the sake of re-election. Let’s remember “our” principles come November and kick another Washington insider out of office.

hornswaggle...Once again,I totally agree.Dem or Republican,if you're corrupt, you should be voted out or sentenced.I think Harold Johnson has great intentions,I just hope he has made a decision to do what's necessary to help N.C..Intentions lead to more intentions and it will take a DECISION and sticking to it to help.I did like Harold Johnson as a sports guy though.

Larry Kissell is only gonna do what Pelosi tells him to do and that's the bottom line.More liberal hogwash.

hornswaggle, the phrase "remember our principles" and vote them out of office refers to voting for Harold Johnson, a puppet of Robin Hayes, and someone we have gotten rid of once. There is no one else to vote for.Now you want to give the power back to Hayes through Johnson. People in the 8th district are not dumb enough to think that Harold Johnson, who actually lives in Iredell County, came up with this scheme to rent an apartment in Concord in Jan. 2010 and run on his own. Robin Hayes "found" the apartment for Johnson. Larry Kissell is not who I wanted in the 8th district, but at least he lives here and did not just find a loophole and move here.

BTW--Robin Hayes deserved to lose in '08. He made a commitment and broke that promise. He did not stand on principle either, therefore he was voted out and rightly so. By the same token, Larry deserves no less a result. Vote him out, he is dishonest.

If Harold Johnson is elected and doesn't live up to his word, vote him out next time too. I'm tired of all the lying politicians, both Democrats and Republicans. If they don't live up to their word, turn them out of office. That's fair all the way around, regardless of political affiliations.

telltales---I didn't read anywhere in Mr. Seigla's letter where he mentioned anything about Robin Hayes. I believe the letter dealt with Larry Kissell and Larry's inability to live up to his word. The problem with folks like you is you want to always look to something else as the problem rather than address the issue being discussed. You're just like Obama, always blaming everything he has screwed up on former President Bush. You want to blame Larry's shortcomings on Robin Hayes. Really not very bright on your part. Stick to the subject.

Mr. Seigla, This is the bombshell you were alluding to in a prior post? There are 169 Republican votes and 1 Democratic vote.

The man who is running against Larry Kissell, Harold Johnson, is the puppet for Robin Hayes who is funding his campaign. Robin Hayes is the same man who vowed to the people in the 8th district in 2005 that he would vote against the CAFTA agreement. However that would not be the case. Around midnight Hayes changed his no vote to a yes vote to appease the factory owners in NC who wanted to move production off-shore. The rest is history with the closing of all the plants in Kannapolis, Salisbury and across NC.
