“He has come back home and he is in our care,” said Denise Quick of Hamlet, his mother.
“We have been dealing with this issue for a long time,” said Tabitha Green, his wife. “He is a very strong person, he has been dealing with this for over five years.”
Check in and registration will be at noon, the fee is $15. The riders will head out at 2 p.m. rain or shine on U.S. 1 north. After the ride there will be free food for the riders. For others, plates will be $7. School supplies will be given by Major James Clemmons of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Quick, the tumor has gotten to Green’s nervous system and now he can no longer walk or talk.
“He makes hand movements and blinks his eyes to communicate,” she said.
“He has a motorcycle and riding it is one of his hobbies,” his father Charles Quick said. “If he could speak for himself he would tell everyone how much this means to him.”
“He is a very good person who loves to help people,” Green said. “He has beaten the odds.”
Green, 29, formerly of Hamlet, had a brain tumor found around 2006 and he was able to have surgery two weeks afterwards and thought everything was fine.
“But the tumor came back,” said Teresa Graham of Hamlet, his aunt.
Green was working in Greensboro where he lived and passed out on the job.
“That is when we knew that it was back,” Graham said.
Green has no life insurance at this time and hasn’t been approved for disability benefits and has to report to Duke University Hospital every six weeks.
“Everyone there knows him as a fighter,” Green said.
“Our family has really been going through something,” Graham said.
“We are prayer for his recovery,” Quick said.
According to Quick, Green is doing well.
“He is currently on medication to prevent the spread of the disease,” she said.
“We really appreciate all the support from our family, our church and the community,” Charles said.
“I just hope that he pulls through it,” Green said. “He has been living life to the fullest and enjoying each day as if it was his last.”
