The Richmond Senior men’s soccer team has been searching for nearly two weeks for its first victory of the 2010 season.

Tuesday night, the Raiders finally found it with a 7-3 win over South View.

Brandon Standridge started the game off right for Richmond (1-2-1), drilling a shot from the lower right corner of the penalty box past the South View keeper with 38:22 left in the first half.

Standridge tallied the first score for the Raiders.

But forward Brandon Benoist collected a hat trick, scoring three goals for Richmond to help the Raiders crack the win column.

The first goal for Benoist came with 31:19 left in the first, after South View had scored a goal to tie the game at one-all with 35:15 on the clock.

Benoist found the back of the net once again with 22:29 left in the first, and scored his third goal of the first half for the hat trick with 56.6 seconds left until halftime.

South View showed it wasn’t going to go away quietly in the first, scoring a second goal with 14:23 left on the clock.

With the game 4-2 going into intermission, the skies opened up and rain started to fall on Raider Stadium.

The action slowed a bit in the second due to the wet conditions, but the Raiders found the back of the net three more times.

Miguel Reyes scored with 14:43 left; Brian Smith followed the score with one of his own with 12:45 remaining; and Peter Christensen scored his first goal for the Raiders with 2:47 left in the contest.

Benoist wasn’t surprised with his performance.

“It felt great to score those three goals,” Benoist said.

“I took a lot of shots yesterday that wasn’t going into the net, and to come back and score on three headers was amazing,” Benoist added.

Richmond head coach Bennie Howard was pleased with the effort he saw on the field, and wants to channel that momentum into the next match.

“We do not have an easy schedule by any means and it only gets tougher from here,” Howard said.

The Raiders will play their third game of the week on Saturday, as they to face the Butler Bulldogs about 20 minutes after the end of the J.V. contest, which is slated for a 5 p.m. kickoff.

J.V. Raiders 2, J.V. Tigers 2

Earlier, the J.V. Raiders battled to a tie with the South View J.V. squad. Tyler Kirk scored the first goal in the second half for the J.V. Raiders.
