A Hoffman man has been sentenced to at least 16 and a half years in prison for the 2008 murder of his live-in girlfriend.

Charles Ashley Batchelor, 40, pled guilty to second-degree murder and received a sentence of 16 and a half to 18 years and seven months in prison for the June 2008 murder of 39-year-old Edythe Lynn Wilson.

The two lived together on Rivers Run in Hoffman.

Wilson’s body was discovered by soldiers at Camp Mackall a week after she was reported missing, wrapped in a Dallas Cowboys blanket and black plastic.

She was believed to have died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Arrests reported by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office include:

n Jimmy Edward “J.J.” Chavis Jr., 32, of Nicholson Road, Rockingham, was arrested and charged with felony counts of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and larceny. His bond was set at $25,000.

n Shannon Lee Cummings, 24, of Lynn Drive, Hamlet, was arrested and charged with felony counts of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering. His bond was set at $2,500.

n Jimmy Ray Williams III, 22, of Old Charlotte Highway, Rockingham, was arrested and charged with felony counts of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.

Arrest reports published in the Richmond County Daily Journal are copied from local law enforcement records. Except for people injured in motor vehicle accidents or reportable deaths, victims including people, businesses and institutions and their addresses are not included as a matter of newspaper policy.

Reports include both arrests and criminal summons such as citations. The Daily Journal lists them all as arrests. People charged are presumed innocent until determined to be guilty by a court of law.
