U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan will make her first public appearance in Richmond County since being elected in 2008 this afternoon in Rockingham.
“Conversations with Kay” is set to run from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Thomas H. Leath Memorial Library on East Franklin Street.
It is one of a series of meetings Hagan is hosting throughout the state to offer constituents an opportunity for face time to discuss the issues that are vital to them.
Those interested in meeting with her can gather at the library, and a spokeswoman said an effort will be made to meet with all who show up.
Tuesday afternoon, Hagan held a similar event at Fort Bragg.
“I am very excited to meet with the community in Richmond County tomorrow,” Hagan said Tuesday. “‘Conversations with Kay’ are a great way for me to talk directly with constituents and hear their concerns so I can better represent them in Washington. Members of my top-notch constituent services staff will also attend tomorrow to help people navigate issues with federal agencies, such as the (Veterans Administration) or (Internal Revenue Service).”
Hagan Spokeswoman Stephanie Allen said citizens are welcomed “to come talk to her about any issues they have or current events that concern them.”
Elected in the 2008 general election, Hagan, a Democrat, replaced one-term Republican U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole.
Previously, Hagan served five terms in the North Carolina Senate, representing the district including most of Greensboro and central Guilford County.
Before launching her political career, Hagan was employed by the company that became Bank of America’s legal division.
Since being elected to the Senate, Hagan has supported causes including financial literacy classes in secondary education, veterans issues and small business assistance from the federal government.
