National Association of Counties (NACo) President Glen Whitley recently reappointed Richmond County Commissioner Pamela Dillman, as NACo’s Transportation Steering Committee’s Airports Subcommittee vice chair for 2010/2011.

Whitley, a judge in Tarrant County, TX, made his policy committee leadership appointments shortly after being installed as NACo president during the association’s Annual Conference and Exposition July 16-20 in Reno. Economic recovery and how counties can do more with less were the main themes of the conference.

“It is an honor to be appointed by President Whitley to serve in a leadership position on the transportation committee to help shape policies affecting local government,” said Dillman. “These tough times are impacting all facets of local government, and it is important that we come up with creative solutions to our transportation dilemmas.”

Dillman has served on the Transportation Steering Committee since 2006. She is also the president-elect of Women of NACo (WON).

The Transportation Steering Committee is responsible for NACo policy development on all matters pertaining to comprehensive transportation planning, rights of way, highway finance and safety, public transit development and finance, airport development, railroads, waterways and research and development of new modes of transportation.

NACo’s steering committees annually review and make recommendations to the NACo Board of Directors on public policy issues and federal legislation. The policy development process initiated by the steering committees leads to the publication of the American County Platform, which will soon be available at www.naco.org.  NACo uses the Platform as a guide to deliver the county government message to the administration, Congress and the American public.
