Three weeks ago, Reutimann won his second career race at Chicagoland Speedway. And this week, it was announced that Reutimann will stick with Michael Waltrip Racing through at least 2012.
In a conference call with motorsports media on Tuesday, Reutimann said both recent events will help him focus his attention on what’s really important.
“It does feel pretty good actually to have those things well situated,” Reutimann said. “To be able to move on, just be concerned about the racing side of things, instead of contract things and stuff like that. The racing is my favorite part, anyway.”
The recent win at Chicagoland was a major confidence boost for Reutimann and his team.
“It can change the outlook of your entire organization,” Reutimann said. “If you’re having a rough year, and you win a race, the sky is the limit from that point on. It gives the driver confidence, it gives the team confidence. And for the guys at the shop that aren’t able to be at the racetrack with you, it gives them a little extra spring in their step, so to speak.”
Reutimann currently finds himself 18th in the points standings - six spots out of the Chase. But with a number of races left, there’s plenty of time to make a move.
“We’re just going to go race and put it all out there,” Reutimann said. “We don’t have anything to lose ... We need to make up ground, so that will enable us to take some chances. We have to make things happen.”
