Mission accomplished, as Rockingham picked up the opening round win by run rule, routing High Point 11-0.
Rockingham set the tone early in the game, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, and never looked back.
They scored four runs in the second inning, three in the third, and one in the fourth.
Josh Griffith kept High Point off balance, pitching four full innings, striking out nine, while allowing no hits and four walks.
Stolen bases were the theme for the Rockingham All-Stars, as they swiped 20 bases through four innings.
Ryley Wilson was a force at the plate, going 2-for-3 in the game, stealing four bases, and driving in three of the 11 runs.
The Rockingham Mustang All-stars will resume action tonight at 6 p.m. at Creekside Park in Archdale.
They will take on the winner of High Point #1 and Southwest Randolph.
Pony League
Rockingham 11, Archdale 1
The Rockingham Pony League All-Stars were also able to walk away with a run-rule win, and advanced to the second round of the winners’ bracket tonight against High Point #1 in Asheboro.
Cody Leviner and James Buie combined to throw a no-hitter for the Rockingham All-stars. Leviner fanned eight batters in three innings, and Buie worked the final three.
Bradley Brown was the offensive catalyst for Rockingham, going 1-for-2 with a two run first-inning homer that sparked Rockingham.
Elijah Goodwin was 3-for-4 with one RBI, and Buie was 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI’s.
Monday’s late result
Bronco League
Garner 7, Rockingham 6
A rain delay meant Monday night’s Bronco League game between Garner and Rockingham did not start until 9:15 p.m., but Rockingham fell behind early and a late rally fell just short.
Luke Hoggard was an offensive highlight for Rockingham, going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.
Rockingham returns to action tonight at 5:30 p.m.
