The Order of the Long Leaf Pine was presented to Barbara Ruth Mudd Orr at her retirement luncheon on June 25. This award is the most prestigious award presented to a civilian by the Governor of North Carolina. Orr began her career with the State of North Carolina in 1979, several years after her graduation from Pembroke State University. She began her career with the Department of Parole Services as a Pre-Release & After Care (P.R. A. C.) Officer. In 1996 PRAC merges with Probation and she became a Probation/Parole Officer for four years. In 2000 she was promoted to a Chief Probation/Parole Officer for seven years. In 2007 she was promoted to Judicial District Manager for Judicial District 20A which covers Richmond, Anson, Stanly & Union counties and served in this position for a period of over three years. She retired on July 1 with 31 years of service to the State of North Carolina and the Division of Community Corrections.
