The Raiders were able to defeat Green Sea Floyds (S.C.) 71-51 in the seventh-place contest at the Shoot-out by the Sea Tournament at North Myrtle Beach High School on Tuesday.
The win snapped Richmond’s seven-game losing streak.
“It feels good to finally get back into the win column, and get a win on the last day of the tournament,” Raiders coach David May said.
Richmond (3-7) had three players score in double figures. Lovell Joy had a team-high 17 points, and was named on the all-tournament team, while Scooter McDonald and Harold Sellers both netted 10 points.
“We got off to a good start, and came out in two different presses that they weren’t prepared for,” Raiders coach David May said. “Our zone and full-court press allowed us to create some turnovers and we turned those into buckets.”
The Trojans were able to get the game within each by connecting on nine 3-pointers in the game. Green Sea Floyds cut the deficit to 47-41 with nine minutes left to play, but the Raiders outscored the Trojans by 14 points to close out the victory.
“We turned the heat up defensively, and we were able to shut them down at the 3-point line,” May said. “We pounded the ball inside in our half court game to Lovell and Scooter, and they went to work down in there. We went 12-for-16 at the free throw line, and the bottom line, we finished plays. That’s something that we didn’t do in our losses.”
The Raiders will return to action this weekend in the Holiday in the Pines Tournament at Pinecrest High School. Richmond opens the tournament Saturday against Overhills High School from Spring Lake.
