Gunmen break into home, rob woman

Three armed men broke into a Beeler Avenue residence and robbed the resident, Hamlet police said.

It was 2 a.m. the day of the incident when police said the victim told them three men kicked in her front door and came into her bedroom, put a silver gun to her face and told her to get on the floor.

She told police they made her crawl to the bedroom of her children keeping her face to the floor while they took items from her bedroom and searched the rest of the house.

Police said the suspects threatened to shoot anyone who came out of the bedroom.

The men did $300 damage to the door during the break-in and stole $4,286.79 worth of property.

While a woman was waiting in line at a restaurant on Hamlet Avenue, Hamlet, a man pushed her down and took $30 from her pocket.

Police said the suspect is reported to have bought 25 cents worth of sauce at the restaurant before the incident and asked a customer for $1.

In another robbery, a teenage man told police he was walking down Raleigh Street when two men came around from Vance Street and told him to give them his money.

The victim said one of the men appeared to be carrying a black sawed-off shotgun.

One of the men struck him in the face, police said. They took $60 from the victim before entering a silver-colored car and driving away.

Other incidents reported to Hamlet police included:

At a store on King Street, Hamlet, three men entered the store and when they left, an $8 pair of pajama pants was missing.

A shotgun valued at $400 was stolen from a vehicle parked at a residence on Rice Street, Hamlet.

Someone did $3,000 damage to the windows and body of a vehicle parked at Piney Pointe Apartments, Hamlet.

A vehicle valued at $2,000 was stolen from a residence on Kent Street, Hamlet, and was later found on Wiregrass Road near Ginger Lane back in the woods. Two tires were flat and $9.80 worth of groceries stolen. The vehicle had been sprayed with paint all over.

A customer at a restaurant on Hamlet Avenue left her purse in the bathroom. When she went back to get it, pills had been stolen out of it.

Someone took a $20 wallet, $1 and a driver’s license in it, from a vehicle parked on Anne Avenue, Hamlet.

At a public facility on Park Street, Hamlet, someone did $40 damage to the door of a storage area and stole a lawnmower valued at $2,000.

Police stopped a 14-year-old boy while he was found riding a recently stolen bicycle valued at $70 from a residence on Jefferson Street, Hamlet. The bicycle was returned to the owner and the boy turned over to his parents.

A vehicle valued a $1,500 was stolen from a residence on West Avenue, Hamlet.

A cell phone valued at $150 was stolen at an institution on McDonald Avenue, Hamlet.

A brick was thrown through the windshield of a vehicle parked on Oakland Avenue, Hamlet, causing $300 damage.

On Corning Street, Hamlet, someone broke into a house and stole $1,168.93 worth of property.
