And it showed: The Junior Raiders routed the Junior Cavaliers, 17-0, in a game halted after three innings; and the Senior Raiders pulled away late for a 10-2 win.
In the nightcap, the Raiders got excellent pitching from a the trio of Ryan Mercer, Austin Brower and Jordan Tucker.
Mercer started and gave the raiders four strong innings, striking out two and getting excellent defense, including a first-inning double play.
The Raiders got two runs in the fourth, but Southern Lee tied the contest in the top of the fifth. Richmond began to pull away with four runs in the bottom of the frame, including run-scoring singles from Ty Bostick and Dylan Turner.
Brower added a bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the sixth for the Raiders. He pitched the fifth and sixth, with Tucker mopping up with a scoreless seventh.
Richmond coach Ricky Young was pleased with his hurlers’ effort. “They all pitched well for us tonight,” Young said. “And we got some timely hitting.”
Richmond improved to 6-2 on the season.
In the early game, the Jr. Raiders got a 2-for-3 night with a pair of runs scored from Jeremy Smith. Mikey Steele was also 2-for-3, with a double and two runs scored.
Jonathan Taylor was 1-for-2 with a run scored for the Junior Raiders, who improved to 5-2 on the summer.
The Raiders travel to Pinecrest on Monday for a Jr.-Sr. doubleheader.
First pitch for the junior game is 4 p.m., with the senior game at 6 p.m.
