The Hamlet All-Stars got off on the right foot to possibly become champions once again, as they routed East Chatam, 15-2.
Jamie Graham took the mound for the Hamlet All-Stars, and he turned in a dominant performance.
He pitched four innings, faced 17 batters, allowed 2 hits, no earned runs, and struck out five East Chatam batters.
Nick Honeycutt proved to be the offensive catalyst for the Hamlet team, going two for three at the plate, and driving in three of the 15 runs that were scored.
Dylan Carpenter also pitched in at the plate, with a one for two night at the plate, and driving in two runs.
Stolen bases were the theme of the night, as the Hamlet squad totaled 19 stolen bases in the four innings that were played.
Dylan Callahan, Jamie Graham, Nick Honeycutt, and Ryan Ross all had three stolen bases for Hamlet.
Dalton Leviner and Ryan Humphrey each had two stolen bases.
Hamlet Coach Glenn Ross said, “The boys had a ton of team spirit tonight, and gave 110% on the field on both sides of the ball.”
“We have been together for three or four years now, and we won this last year in the 11-year-old division, and we are looking to have the same success this year,” Ross added.
Errors and passed balls plagued East Chatam, as they allowed four of Hamlet’s 15 runs to cross the plate on an error, or a passed ball.
Hamlet will resume tournament action tonight in Siler City, taking on the squad from Laurinburg.
Hamlet will send pitcher Dylan Carpenter to the mound to try and pick up the second-round victory.
Ross said, “The rivalry with Laurinburg is very strong. We have some kids who played in Hamlet that are playing there now, and a win Friday night would give us the momentum we need to finish strong.”
