FirstHealth Richmond Health and Fitness will be offering several sports-themed camps this summer.
A basketball camp for boys and girls ages 6-18 will be held July 12-16 from 8 a.m. to noon. Operated by Richmond head women’s basketball coach Nellie Harrington and her husband Frank, an assistant coach, the camp will focus on overall skills such as dribbling, shooting and passing. A Hot Shot competition will be included. Fee for the camp is $50 for members and $60 for non-members.
A karate camp will be held Aug. 9-13 from 8 a.m. to noon. Carson Hines, instructor for the camp, has 30 years of experience teaching martial arts. Karate teaches confidence, self-defense, focus, respect, physical fitness, leadership, discipline and self esteem. Fee for the camp is $50 for members and $60 for non-members.
Swim camps are also slated. Camps for 4-7-year-olds will be held July 19-23 and Aug. 2-6, and camps for 8-12-year-olds are scheduled for July 5-9 and Aug. 2-6. The cost for the swim camp is also $50 for members and $60 for non-members.
Youth soccer registration set
Rockingham Parks and Recreation will begin accepting youth soccer registration Thursday, July 15. The registration period will conclude Monday, Aug. 16.
Fees for city residents are $20, plus $6 if not currently insured by Parks and Recreation. Fees for non-city residents are $30, plus $6 if not insured by Parks and Recreation.
Teams for under 6, under 8, under 10, under 13 and under 16 will be formed. The cutoff date for age purposes is Aug. 1.
