Yazmahn Kinyada Wall was crowned the 2010 Queen of the Debutante Cotillion. The daughter of Dawayne and Erica Wall of Rockingham, she will attend N.C. State University in the fall.
Soror Delores Foreman, the organization’s second vice president, was Wall’s sponsor. She was escorted by Jarvis Rush, the son of Harold and Latosha Patterson.
Comprising the Queen’s court were: Maid of Honor - Keisha DeShaun Griffin, the daughter of Deborah Bryant, who will attend Johnson & Wales University in the fall. Soror Alice Baker-Little, secretary, was her sponsor. She was escorted by Eddie Bright, the son of Eddie and Saundra Bright.
First Attendant – Teray Sha’quan Zinnerman, the daughter of Nathaniel and Katrina Zinnerman, who will attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Soror Alice Baker-Little was her sponsor. She was escorted by Jeremy Asbury, the son of Renita Chambers-McBride and Jeremy Asbury.
Second Attendant – Chyna Samoan Kitt, the daughter of Mary Sturdivant and Deanna Sturdivant, who will also attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Soror Gloria Mask, a charter member, was her sponsor. She was escorted by Stephen Goodwin, the son of Kelvin and Cynthia Thomas.
Third Attendant – KymBerlee Charmayne Bradley, the daughter of Rebecca Bradley and the late Walter Bradley, who will attend N.C. Central University. Soror Doris Henry Cuthrell, first vice president and historian, was her sponsor. She was escorted by her brother, Christopher Bradley.
Winning the Scholarship Award was Yazmahn Wall. KymBerlee Bradley received Miss Congeniality and the Citizenship Award. Teray Zinnerman won the talent competition.
Soror Cynthia Northcutt, Alpha Pi Chi president, served as mistress of ceremonies for the enchanted evening that formally introduced these young ladies to society. The money raised from the cotillion goes toward “educational awards that encourage and assist the young ladies in their educational endeavors beyond high school,” she said. All debutantes received monetary scholarships.
The college bound debutantes and their escorts entertained the crowd with dance and prose as their final salute before making the transition to the next step in their careers. They spoke of their choice of colleges, their career aspirations and demonstrated their affection and appreciation for family and friends along the way.
Throughout the year, the contestants participated in movie night, a financial aid workshop, a talent show, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Luncheon, a debutante sleepover, and attended the musical production, “Camelot.”
