RHA Executive Director Angela McGill told the board Tuesday evening the agency was given a substandard score of 44 during an inspection by a private agency in December. That was the month McGill was hired. It had a score of 54 in a recent inspection.
“So we’ve made progress,” McGill told the board. “We were happy about those 10 points in such a short period of time, but we will be pulling a lot of overtime trying to get ready (for the July inspection). We hope to get the score at least up to standard.”
She explained after the meeting 65 is considered a baseline standard score. Another inspection is scheduled to begin July 22.
At a called meeting last week, the RHA board approved more than $154,000 worth of work to prepare for the July inspection.
According to the agency’s June Capital Fund Report, Henley Construction will be contracted to correct several trip hazards throughout the complex due to damaged concrete, soil erosion and other factors.
“Under this contract, RHA will replace the community signs, repair the basketball court on John F. Kennedy Drive and complete some landscaping at Palisade Circle, John F. Kennedy and Armstead Street,” the report reads.
In addition, the board approved a $75,000 contract to replace playground equipment on Armstead Street, Hunter Circle, Palisade Court and John F. Kennedy Drive.
The board was told the contract will include the removal of the old equipment and installation of equipment approved for children ages 2 to 12.
At the outset of Tuesday’s meeting, board members approved financial reports from the prior month, posing questions over fees paid to a temporary hiring agency and for landscaping work, including mowing grass, hedge-trimming and other maintenance tasks.

McGill told the board the RHA was denied a grant to hire youth interns for the summer.
