Shagging will return to Cole Plaza in Rockingham this evening with a free performance by Too Much Sylvia.

The band is set to play its make-up date from June 3, when the concert was canceled due to the threat of inclement weather.

“Everything is on go,” Rockingham Special Events Coordinator Kim Williams said Wednesday evening. “We hate that we had to reschedule, but we’re looking forward to having a great time, so bring your lawn chairs and blankets and get ready for a great concert.”

The band features three lead vocalists and plays a variety of songs from original songs, beach music, country and hits from the 60’s through the 21st Century.

“We performed in Rockingham years ago with a band called Sugar Creek. Now three of that band’s original members are in Too Much Sylvia, and we are looking forward to the event,” Rick Lee, of Too Much Sylvia, said.

This will be the second show of the seventh annual Plaza Jam series, which features Beach music acts on the first Thursday of each month from May through October.

The Fantastic Shakers kicked off this year’s series of concerts in May. Bands scheduled for the rest of the year include Tommy Black and the Blooz in July, Band of Oz in August, General Johnson and Chairmen of the Board in September and The Tams in October.

As in past years, the Rockingham AmVets Post will provide concessions, and snow cones will also be available.

The six sponsors for the series include the City of Rockingham, Richmond County Tourism Development Authority, FirstCarolinaCare Insurance Company, BB&T, Dieffenbach GM Superstore and Electronics Service Company (ESC). This is a free, family-oriented event. Alcohol and strong language are not permitted.
