Try some hard work

As I read the many editorial letters I notice the division of politics. Republicans vs. Democrats, Conservative vs. Liberal, good vs. evil. The truth be told, there is not that much difference between the two parties. I believe both parties are out of touch with one important element: the United States Declaration of Independence.

Our forefathers founded this country on many principles. The most important one was the “unalienable right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

But our country, this generation, has become a people of entitlement. This country was founded on entitlement. A different type of entitlement is what we see today. Everyone is entitled to life through hard work, liberty through sacrifice and the pursuit of happiness through understanding.

The government’s practices are turning this generation into a people who feel they should be given, without question, what they want when they want it. They feel they should have a better life than the generation before them, and rightful so. But where is the work and the responsibility?

With all the government’s bailouts and expanded welfare programs, I fear that we are raising a generation of people who will rely on the government for their livelihood instead of the sweat from their brow. The government is telling everyone that no matter how bad of a job you do it’s all right. We will bail you out, in life and business.

We all must make sacrifices. People may have to take a job they do not want or even like. That is why it is called a job, not a hobby. A hard day’s work will make a man feel tired, sweaty and possibly old. But it will also make a man feel alive, liberated and happy.

Dana,

Contrary to what was said here, I am not atheist!!! I believe in God.

Matt:32-33 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before my Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven."

osama, your handle speeks volumes about you and what you believe. Beck has been on Fox for a long time. He fuels the fire by telling a certain segment of our population things that they want to hear and frankly in many cases they are totally misinformed. Some people love the ignorance and hate he spews in the name of God (he claims). But then I feel that Jesus is saying, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do."

This keeps Beck raking in the millions. He does have a scheme!!! I can't wait to see if he shows up August 28. Trust me, in the words of Paul, once known as Saul, "This too shall pass."

MSNBC has only been around less than 2 years and it is gaining popularity, especially from the young generation. Look out, FOX!!!!!

By-the-way, check out FOX's recent ratings!!!!

Dana, continue to do what you do!!!!

I take offense to that...Jesus walked on water, Peter Parker walked on walls. That's pretty much the same. And I bet you Jesus never wrapped up the bad guys in a web.

Do you think you get less slant from Oberman and Butch Maddow? If Beck is so bad, why does FOX have more viewers than than all other news outlets combined? What Beck tells is very sad, but unfortunately true.

I don't expect anything from Bonnie other than the talking points she gets from Beck and Limbaugh. She is a parrot, nothing more ... nothing less.

Bonnie,

I never said pres Obama came up with PAYGO. I said McCain and Snowe had endorsed this idea that had been used in the 1990 s but when the pres decided to use it, all the repubs said, "no."

Dana,

Please do not look for Bonnie to answer you. She has a way of ignoring questions that require factual, credible answers.

As for you Kevin, I will not dignify your #!@##$$

with a response!!!!!!!

OH NO YOU DID NOT... BONNIE! Seriously, you are claiming the Maverick is the mastermind behind pay as you go? When I think about "pay as you go" I hear Clinton.

You blame our entire debt on Obama, refusing to acknowledge the previous 8 years of insane spending or justifying that spending by calling it "defense".

As for that silly poem, could you point me to some answers for the problems we face right now? Saying no is all well and good if you have an alternative solution to the problems.

Chickens for doctors and shooting the government ... these are not answers.... How about some real answers and then we can take you more seriously.

Republicans.... the party of "Hell No" with a total inability to govern at all!

DCaudle - It;s quite simple...America has become, in a very short historical time frame, the great economic power in human history. The reason - a culture of personal and economic freedom and an undying faith in the free market - ie capitalism. Ye of the "smart ethic", large house plan and impressive pay stub should know all this.

When this country has abandoned the free market (which we are in the midst of doing), then we become just another player on the global scene. A sad ending to a great nation...

Deesmom, I'm not surprised you vote the way you do. You have your facts skewed. It is McCain who promotes the idea that we must pay as we go. Not Obama. I wish it was McCain would not even ask for any excessive pork spending for his own state for that very reason

We are the party of 'no'

no to racism?

no to weak foreign policy footing, kowtowing to despotic world leaders?

no to socialism

no to fomenting class-warfare,

no to destroying jobs by raising taxes on the on those who provide them?

no to killing babies in the womb,

no to redefining traditional marriage?

no to calling returning veterans extremist nut-jobs to be placed on a watch-list?

no to thinking we can spend and tax our way back to prosperity by saddling our grand kids with a magnitude of debt?

And we are also the party of 'know';

We know the principles upon which this country was founded. like love of God and country individual liberty, respecting the flag,.

We know and practice a dedication to our international autonomy.

We also know the meaning of trust but verify and individualism and personal responsibility.

We know that this nation was founded on Capitalism - the fairest and most successful system in the world. Something our president does not seem to know.

And we are also the party of 'right'

Deesmom..... you hit the nail on the head! That's why they proudly call themselves the party of "hell no"! I'm all for a good "Hell No" if you have an actual issue with a bill or policy, but no for the sake of no.... just to say NO to the president is absurd and wrong! To base your entire political stance on being against whatever the opposing party is for, well that is not governing.

This is the problem with this country, people like Deesmom have the opportunity to vote when she has no idea what she speaks about.

Yes,Patriot, there is a noticeable difference in the dems and repubs, especially the ones who are in office now.

This admin cut taxes for 95% of working families, small businesses, home buyers, and parents paying for child care and college...repubs are no longer in favor of tax cuts (only for the wealthy)

This admin's plan to protect americans and stop greed in health insurance...was greeted with an emphatic "no" from the repubs and they went on a rampage to scare americans with..."gov'tment take over, death panels, pulling the plug on grandma.

This admin initiated financial reform to protect americans from greed (Wall Street). Repubs voted against any type of Wall Street reform and even said big banks should not pay back "bailout" money.

On national security, repubs had no problem with the Bush/Cheney admin trying terrorists in federal courts. Now when this admin decides to do the same, suddenly the repubs say it is not a good idea.

This admin wanted to use "PayGo" a simple rule that says congress can not spend a dime w/o cutting a dime elsewhere. It worked in the 1990s. Some repubs (McCain, Snowe and others) endorsed the idea but when Pres Obama endorsed it, they voted against it.

The senate set up a comm to work on ideas to combat our nation's debt. The comm was very much bipartisan...6 dems and 6 repubs. The bill offered solutions to the debt but when it was time to vote, the 6 repubs voted against the bill they co-sponsored. It was evident that solutions was not what they wanted.

Now they are apologizing to the oil companies when people are suffering. There is definitely a difference!!!

Like you, telltale, I do not know how we got to this point from the original letter but...

Actually.... as long as the electoral college exists, voting for a third party is useless. The popular vote gets one of the three slates and democrats and republicans both want it to remain this way. This is why you see the tea party running together with the republican party, a third party doesn't stand a chance as long as we have the electoral college.

TTonyR - Wrong. While I sympathize and agree with most of your points in your post regarding the growth of government and spending excess, making a blanket statement about their being zero difference between the two parties is not only factually wrong, but dangerous. In these precarious times when we find ourselves being governed by radical elements of our society, we cannot and must not miss an opportunity to highlight those areas where the two parties offer fundamentally different visions for the future of this great nation.

"The Right to Life" - There is a clear and stark difference in the Democrats' positions on life issues. They are overwhelmingly for unrestricted abortion, no parental notification and resist efforts to educate women in the grips of a very difficult decision.

"The Right to Liberty" - Personal and economic freedom is the cornerstone of conservatism. While faux-conservatives have veered off the path of limited government from time to time, there remains a clearly delineated line between Republicans' positions on taxation/regulation and the liberals' big-spending, huge government growth platforms.

American Exceptionalism - Conservatives are in awe of this great nation and the freedoms is preserves for 320 million people. We are proud of our nation's founders and the momentous achievements that America has realized during its short life. Liberalism is driven by a "Blame America First" mentality. Obama's apology tour is the greatest current example of this mindset. Conservatives believe in peace through strength. Liberals believe in shrinking our military.

These are just a few of the great differences and I could go on and on...

The danger? Discouraging an already apathetic citizenry to conclude that voting is useless - which nothing could be further from the truth at this moment in time. Liberalism must halted in its tracks before its too late...This administration and their ideology will destroy this country.

matt is very correct in his accessment of our two major political parties, is anyone who does not recognize that is simply not following current politics..

When unbiased people compare the policies of the

Obama administration with the policies of the Bush administration, they are basically identical.

Sure, the Republicans talk of fiscal restraint while they're out of power, but, they have proven

over and over that they can spend money like drunken democrats when they get elected..

The Obama policy on the war is exactly the same as the Bush policy..

While it is true that Obama has passed a national healthcare policy, Republicans conveniently forget

that it was their guy that came up with the Medicare Drug benefit, also a very expensive entitlement program..

And while we're at it, for all the folks screaming the dangers of national healthcare, we already have national healthcare for a large segment of the population, namely Medicaid and Medicare.

Poor people and seniors have had government run healthcare for generations, which in Richmond Co covers nearly 50% of our population..

In closing, it isn't what the parties say, particularly when they are out of power.. Just watch their actions..

There is zero difference between the Repubicans and the Democrats..

Right, so let's just keep using oil and depending on oil and hope for the best.... Sadly, the people on the gulf don't have the luxury of forgetting about and going yachting or playing golf.

Kevin 1, I do not know what this has to do with this letter, but I will compare President Obama's response to President Bush's response to Hurricane Katrina. When Karina hit Bush was on a month long vacation in Crawford,Tx. He surveyed the flood damage from the air on his way back to Washington. Great Job Brownie!!!!!
