The weather, much like the Raiders offense and defense started off warm, and only got hotter as the game wore on as Richmond powered its way to an 11-4 win.
By the time the top of the third inning came around, the weather was scorching hot — perhaps a preview of what the Raider bats would do to the Tigers in that inning.
The Raiders (1-0) pushed six runs across the plate in the top of the third, and batted through the order to take an early 6-0 lead.
The Raiders never looked back, as they cruised the rest of the way to notch the road victory.
Providing the spark for the Raider offense was Alex Dockery, who had two RBIs and three stolen bases. Andy Shuler was a blur on the basepaths, as he swiped four bases and scored three runs.
A brief weather delay in the seventh could not cool off the Raider bats, as they went on to score five more runs and pitcher .
The Tigers never seemed to be able to regain their composure after the Raiders’ third-inning scoring six runs in the third, as two Raiders were later able to steal home after stealing third base.
Richmond will look to keep its early season winning ways going tonight, as the Raiders square off against Pinecrest tonight at Raider Field at 7 p.m. in the nightcap of a junior-senior doubleheader. The Raiders’ junior squad faces the Patriots at 5 p.m.
