He was born April 12, 1919, in Richmond County, a son of the late Raleigh G. Williams and Della Moore Williams.
He was first married to Lucille Bell Williams who died in 1992. He later married Margaret Anderson Williams who survives.
Mr. Williams was a graduate of Schoolfield High School, Danville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WWII and a member of American Legion Post 325. He worked at Dan River Mills 29 years and Goodyear 15 years before retiring. He was a member of Schoolfield Baptist Church where he formerly served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sang in the choir.
Survivors in addition to his wife of the residence, include two sons, Rev. Dr. John Luther Williams and wife Loretta of Hayden, Alabama; Lester Budd Williams and wife Susan of Danville; sister, Havannah Henry of Tarboro; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by sisters, Corine Reynolds and Mary Stephens; brothers, Silas, Fordie, John, Benny, Martin and Gilbert.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 11, 2010, at 2 p.m. from Swicegood Funeral Home, 564 West Main St., Danville, VA by Rev. Dr. Luther Williams and Rev. Daniel Lackey. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home on Thursday, June 10, 2010, from 7-8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence.
